Semillon and seafood – it’s an iconic pairing that just screams ‘summer’, and both will be on the menu in plenty at the McLeish Estate Semsational Vintage Celebration Wine Dinner on February 21.
Newcastle East’s historic Paymasters restaurant is our venue. Nestled just behind Customs House on the old Convict Lumber Yard and overlooking Foreshore Park, the heritage-listed building will provide a gorgeous setting for our festivities.
Chef Rodney Scales has curated a seasonally-inspired five course degustation, which will be perfectly matched with eight McLeish Estate wines.
The aromas of Gravalax, sweet pork and duck breast will all dance in the air, accompanied by our range of Semillons, Chardonnays and Cabernets. If that’s not enough to whet your appetite the meal will be topped off with a red chocolate tart, a wonderful contrast to our dessert wines.
Vigneron Jessica McLeish said that summer seabreezes and cool Semillons were an ideal combination. “Newcastle’s coastline and Semillon are the perfect fit,” she said. “The ultimate pairing happens when you create a balance of flavours where the wine supports and lifts the dish. “When you combine summer, seafood and Semillon together everything shines.”
Most excitingly, the evening will culminate in the celebration of our 34th vintage. Despite the drought conditions across New South Wales, 2019 is still proving to be a year of great quality with ideal conditions prevailing to produce some beautifully balanced wines.
There will also be the opportunity to taste rare release wines, including the Reserve Shiraz 2014 which will be poured on the night.
