As the bagpipes and highland dancers performed and canapes were served, we found ourselves transported to the Scottish highlands for an unforgettable Hunter Highland Luncheon event hosted by the McLeish family. The blend of Scottish tradition, culinary excellence and great McLeish wines left a lasting impression on every guest.
The setting surrounded by the estate vineyards bursting with new growth, as guests arrived the sounds of pipes and drums filled the air. As we stepped inside, the long tables adorned with Scottish thistle and wine flights to enjoy throughout the feast, creating a charming and inviting space for guests to savor.
The heart of the event lay in the exceptional selection of McLeish Wines finest vintages. Thank you to the Pepper Creek culinary team for creating the Scottish menu for the day. The menu was a delight, featuring locally sourced produce that perfectly complimented the wines. From the Scotch egg paired with the NV Duke Cuvee to the Scottish salmon with sorrel and lemon paired perfectly with the vertical of the new release McLeish Semillon 2023 and the trophy winning Museum Semillon 2004. The braised beef cheek paired with the first release of the Reserve Shiraz 2019 alongside the trophy winning Museum Shiraz 2003, was a truly exceptional pairing. Each course was a masterpiece of flavour on the day.
One of the highlights of the event was undoubtedly the Caber toss competition. The caber toss is a traditional Scottish athletic event in which competitors toss a large tapered pole called a “caber”. It is normally practised at the Scottish Highland Games. Congratulations to the Ladies champion Kerry Macdonald for a 3.90m caber toss and Men’s champion Bernard Silano-Malouf for a 7.70m caber toss.
Live entertainment excited the sights and sounds of Scotland with Maitland Pipes and Drums performing throughout the day. As well as Justine Daly School of Highland Dancing showcasing their talent.
Thank you to all our Wine Partners & guests who attended this years event at the winery. It was a day filled with laughter, fine wines, and unforgettable flavours.
