The Chelsea is a classic single vineyard blend of Semillon (51%) and Chardonnay (49%) that showcases two of our most highly produced varietals. The Semillon provides freshness, while the Chardonnay displays a great depth of flavour. A blend that is in perfect synergy.
The Chelsea is named after our granddaughter.
The Semillon provides freshness and longevity to the blend, while the barrel fermented Chardonnay brings ripe stone fruit flavours and complexity.
The estate Chardonnay was hand harvested on the 27th of January followed by the estate Semillon on the 31st of January. After a mild start to season the optimal conditions prevailed with long warmer days towards the end of January. These ideal conditions provided excellent ripeness and primary fruit characters for our estate Semillon.
Chelsea is a blend of the estate vineyard Chardonnay (1.77ha) and block 2 & block 4 Semillon (1.75ha). These vineyards sit 200m above sea level and the vineyard site is set on friable red duplex loam soil at Pokolbin in the Lower Hunter Valley – the vines, planted in 1985 – consistently produce the purest and brightest signatures of Hunter Semillon and Chardonnay.
Fresh prawns and creamy fettucine
Our expression of Semillon / Chardonnay is crafted to display vibrancy and a depth of flavour in its youth, while cellaring into the next 10 years will reward with the blend developing added complexity and softened texture over time.
