2019 Semillon / Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting Notes

Semillon 54% Sauvignon Blanc 46%

Pale quartz with straw hue. This crisp white wine exhibits zesty fresh lemon rind and citrus fruits balanced with passionfruit and ripe peach. The palate delivers vibrant melon and tropical fruit flavours of Sauvignon Blanc and the citrus notes of the Semillon provide an extremely delightful depth of flavour, leading to a clean crisp finish.

This year McLeish Estate started harvesting the Semillon on the 30th of January. The optimal conditions prevailed with long warmer days, the Vintage conditions throughout the white harvest continued to be extreme heat waves of 40 degrees plus leading to excellent ripeness and primary fruit characters.

The vintage in Orange saw record low temperatures were also recorded resulting in a late, very cool vintage. The Sauvignon Blanc flavours are intense and the natural acidity is striking.

Our Semillon is hand harvested from vines grown in friable red duplex loam soil at Pokolbin in the Lower Hunter Valley.– the vines, planted in 1985 – consistently producing the purest and brightest signatures of Hunter Semillon.

The Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from cool, high elevation Balmoral Vineyard in Orange NSW.
